Weight Loss and Metabolism
You’re not imagining it. And it’s not just about eating less and moving more.
WEIGHT LOSS AND METABOLISM
What brings people to us
Weight and energy symptoms
Hunger and fullness are set by signals passing between your gut, your fat tissue and your brain, and they sit largely outside conscious control. We start by working out which part of that system is involved for you.
- Weight gain around the middle
- Stalled weight loss despite doing the right things
- Persistent fatigue that sleep does not fix
- Energy that drops sharply after meals
- Strong appetite or cravings you cannot override
- Thyroid-type symptoms with results called normal
Tracking every meal, starting again on Monday, the clothes you have stopped wearing. If you have found weight difficult to manage, there is biology underneath that experience, and it is not a failing of character.
Why effort has not been enough
About 95 per cent of the energy you use in a day is everything except planned exercise. Your resting metabolic rate is roughly 70 per cent of your entire day’s energy expenditure, and everyday movement, like standing, walking about, housework and fidgeting, can differ between two people of the same size by as much as 2,000 calories a day. That everyday movement also unconsciously drops when you eat less and feel tired, which is one of the most common reasons weight loss slows or stops.
These are the drivers we look at.
- How your body handles blood sugar and insulin
- Thyroid function
- Perimenopause or andropause in men and other hormonal change
- How much muscle you carry, and where fat is stored
- Sleep, stress and cortisol
- Gut function
- Iron, B12, vitamin D and other nutrient status
- Inherited differences in appetite and body composition
HOW WE INVESTIGATE
What we look for, and why
What we investigate
Many people come to us having already done the diets, the fasting windows, the gym membership and the calorie tracking, with mixed results at best. We start by testing, and we read those results against what is optimal for you rather than against the standard normal range.
The baseline covers your blood sugar, your cholesterol, your liver, your kidneys, your thyroid and a general blood screen, along with your weight, waist measurement, blood pressure and heart rate. Waist and body composition matter here as much as the scale, because the aim is to lose fat while holding on to muscle.
Where your history warrants it we add insulin and insulin resistance, iron, B12 and folate, vitamin D, uric acid and inflammatory markers. Whatever we recommend, we will discuss it with you and build a treatment protocol to suit your needs.
our process
How We Approach Weight Loss
01
Assess
We start with a thorough review of your energy patterns, weight history, metabolic symptoms, lifestyle, and previous results. We look at what you’ve tried before and what happened, including approaches that worked temporarily and those that didn’t work at all. From there we build a picture of the physiology behind your symptoms.
02
Investigate
Based on what your assessment reveals we use targeted testing to identify the specific drivers. This may involve gut microbiome analysis, hormone panels, metabolic markers, or a combination. We establish exactly what testing is relevant to your situation and confirm costs before anything proceeds.
03
Personalise
Your plan is built from your results. Where clinical intervention is appropriate and supported by what we find, we explain the reasoning clearly: what we’re addressing, why, and what to expect. Where lifestyle and nutritional changes are the right lever we make those specific and actionable. Where treatment is indicated, our clinical team includes Australian registered prescribers who can consider the clinically appropriate options for you.
04
Optimise
Weight and metabolic health respond over time with the right approach. In follow up consultations we review how your body is responding, adjust as your results evolve, and refine the plan as we go.

Choose How to Begin
-
30 MINUTES · $120
Weight gain around the middle, stalled weight loss, or persistent fatigue. We go through your history, what you have already tried and what happened, and work out what is worth investigating.
-
60 MINUTES · $240
For a weight and energy history going back years, several approaches already tried, or previous testing you want interpreted. The extra half hour gives us time to work through the whole history properly rather than rush the end of it.
If you are unsure, start with the 30min. It fits most weight and energy questions. However, if your history goes back years or there is previous testing to interpret, the hour does in one sitting what would otherwise take two appointments, at the same total cost.
Consultations run to the time booked. If yours needs longer, we will tell you before we go over, and the extra time will be charged.
